Phil started his career at Morgan Studios in London, where his contempories included Flood, Mike Hedges and Chris Tangarides, and he assisted on sessions for The Jam, Thin Lizzy, Gary Moore, and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
He was soon offered an assistant engineer's job at Lansdowne Studios, where he worked on sessions for Mike Batt, Graham Parker and The Rumour, The Sex Pistols, Jeff Wayne, Gerry Rafferty and most of the Stiff Records roster.
After a year at Lansdowne, he started assisting Stephen Lipson at Regents Park Studios, and became the house engineer working with Kirsty MacColl, The Raincoats, Pere Ubu, Orange Juice, Colin Blunstone and Japan.
Phil then went free-lance, recording and mixing for Paul Hardcastle, John Williams, Trevor Horn, Stephen Lipson, Danny D, Mike Peden and David A Stewart. He built a reputation as a remixer and producer and had chart success with Maxi Priest, Cathy Dennis, The Housemartins, The Lighthouse Family, S Club 7, Imogen Heap and Sunscreem.
Phil has also recorded, mixed and co-produced film scores with composer Stephen Endelman, most notably on "Delovely" featuring performances from Robbie Williams, Natalie Cole, Alanis Morissette, Sheryl Crowe, Diana Krall, Mick Hucknall and Elvis Costello.
Phil has also mixed several live shows for broadcast and DVD including Will Young, Dido and The Spice Girls at the O2. |
